| Customer Reviews: Lorex DVR shipped with dead clock July 5, 2010 AdamPanama I ordered a Lorex DVR (together with cameras and system and the product arrived well packaged and in good order. I carried the item to my home country and proceeded with installation. The layout of the equipment is reasonably self-explanatory and setup is relatively straightforward. Once out of the box and set up, I proceeded to do what they recommend in the manual, which is to set the time and date. This was easily enough done, but the clock simply failed to update and run. So the system shows the same time and date as I entered into it. When I went to the internet it seems like Lorex shipped a fair number of units with defective clocks, starting back in 2008!! You'd think that it would be the first thing they check, then, upon shipping a new unit in 2010. But evidently they are more interested in unloading their inventory than in having satisfied customers. I suggest buyers beware with this brand. One can buy cheap cams and set up a computer-based system for the same money or less, and the chances are that the clock on a computer wont fail. It's one thing for an article to fail after use. In this case, nobody at Lorex bothered to do any quality control. The construction of their cameras is shoddy. You can hear loose parts inside. I would think long and hard before buying their products again.
Check black plug inside if no front button control August 11, 2009 Frank J. Miller I received my Lorex 154-81 packed in three layers of boxes...Great job. I might add, it comes with a package of rca to bnc adapters & screws to install the internal HD. The hard drive comes mounted in the security cage, so make sure you plug in the removal drive. Everything I have read says, 80gb internal hard drive. It is not there. It also comes with a remote control.
I opened the bottom of the recorder and added another drive 41gb I had laying around from an old computer, made it the slave, since the plug in one was the master 80gb. EASY.
The hard drive that works with this unit is a ST3802110a for the 80gb. I could not find anywhere what hard drive to buy, if you wanted to add, or change size. After more reading going to order up a WD 250gb WD2500AAKS .For more info the SATA is not being used. Very easy to change or add.
***IMPORTANT***
OK, I hope this saves some one else that buys one of these the 2 hours I spent trying to get the recorder to do anything.
I plugged it in and had a picture on my monitor with in minutes. NO CONTROL with the REMOTE, or FRONT PANEL BUTTIONS, EXECPT FOR ON/OFF. I spent 2 hours and finally read on the net, to check the black plug inside that connects to the front panel control TOO EASY, THE PLUG WAS DISCONNECTED. I plugged it in and everything works great.
I really like the FF feature, x1 x2 x3 pause, and reverse. Real easy to use.
Things I disliked.
It has no audio; I did not want audio anyhow.
I only took off 1 star because of the plug being unplugged.
One works, the other doesn't April 30, 2009 Corine Huq 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered 2 of these Lorex DVRs for 2 different stores and both worked well upon setup. But after 6 months, one kept losing time, and pretty soon clock just stopped. It's still recording, but if the clock always says the same day, then you can't really scroll thru previous days recordings (there all the same day to the machine!). So it was still under warranty and we sent it back and they replaced it with a new one. Now, a year later, the same thing! So disappointed that we're getting a different system with a different brand. The other still works (fingers crossed) but still, it's just not a reliable brand.
